I have an eight month old son with radial club hand on the left hand,it has a short ulna and no radius. He has no thumb on the left hand as well. The right hand is normal but has a loose thumb which doctors say would have to be taken off.
I want to know if you can advice me on ulnarization and pollicization. A doctor i consulted said ulnarization can correct the shortness of the hand and bring it to the same length as the right. Also how do children adapt to pollicization? Will it affect him in any way?

Centralizatin or ulnarization is not a lengthening procedure but it does place the hand on the end of the remaining ulna and effectively "lengthens" the ability of the hand in that direction. A flexible elbow is needed when that procdure is considered.

Polliczation serves most childern well. CHildren adapt quickly when young.
