    Hey people,

My first nephew was born early hours of this morning, but on his left hand he is missing his index middle and ring fingers, has his thumb and pinky, nothing else wrong, my brothers in a bit of a mess rang him up and he was crying, think hes upset about him getting bullied and finding a girlfriend etc. So i was just wondering what sort of things can be done for him? just wanna reassrue my bro as much as poss obviously im sure the hospital are telling him things but would be nice to hear from people who have had this happen to them. Have told him the thumbs the most important part, and as far as bullying i remember kids being bullied for being fat, ugly etc which my nephew wont be both parents are good lookers and neither are fat (guessing this will be passed on) So as far as that goes i think having prosthetic fingers will attract far less attention than being fat or ugly (i dont like the word ugly everyones beautiful to somebody) but you know what i mean. So yeah any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance, stu

    Hi Stu,
Congrats on your nephew. Tell your brother that his son will be able to do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that he wants to do. There are people with limb differences who play all instruments including violin, guitar, piano, and do all sports. My daughter has what sounds like a similar hand to your nephew and she does gymnastics, Parkour, climbs everything, plays piano, etc... She's only 9 so I can't say much about boyfriends, but she has lots of friends both girls and boys. Sometimes someone will say something but her friends are there to back her up, some of her friends have even said that her nubbins are pretty cool. My son's friend likes that she can bend her nubbins all the way backward. So, I'm not worried about the eventual boyfriend stage, if someone's too shallow to date someone because of a limb difference, then they aren't worth dating period. Kids will bully kids for many different reasons. My daughter had one boy last year who was close to bullying, but the school intervened very quickly, and she's learned to stick up for herself too. I seriously doubt your nephew will need (or want) prosthetic fingers--he'll get along fine with the hand he has. He'll probably be an inspiration for all of you, I know my daughter is for us. My advice for your brother is to treat your nephew like he would a child with all 10 "regular" fingers, and he'll be just fine. I know it's hard now thinking of all the things he might not be able to do, but once your nephew is a few months old and starts hitting all of his milestones like crawling, walking, etc... those few missing bones won't mean so much.
