    Hello all,
My wife and I recently had a precious baby boy (7 days ago) who has this condition. We are beginning our research for treatment. We have been advised to go to the Shriners Hospital here in Houston, TX but would also like to know if there is anything or any particular doctor that deals with this that some of you may recommend(anywhere in U.S. or world for that matter). Thank you!!!

    Hi,

Congrats on the arrival of your Son.
Our Son Jack has bilateral fibular hemimelia with tibial angulation. He underwent bilateral amputation at 11 months old at DuPont Hospital in Delaware. He was under the care of Dr. Shanmuga S. Jayakumar. Dr. Jay and the team at Dupont are excellent. We consider them part of our family.

We explored procedures and hospitals in our area, including Dupont, Shriners, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (where my wife works as a nurse). When it came to choosing the surgeon, we went with the Doctor who helped us understand which procedure was best for our Son. Dr Jay asked us to go to prosthetic clinic, before Jack had his surgery, to understand prosthetics and to see kids with similar conditions. We discussed limb lengthening and reviewed the pros and cons. When we made our decision, there was no doubt in our minds. No one should make the decision for you.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Tim
