I'm trying to find out if there are any other parents of kids with limb differences here in Raleigh/Durham. I've asked the Pediatric Orthopedist we visited, but he had only been here 2 weeks and didn't know of anyone.

I would love to connect with parents going through the same thing. Our daughter is due at the end of January. Her right forearm is shortened and she is missing everything past her wrist.

I live in Charlotte, NC and have a son born with bilateral radial club hands. His right hand had no thumb until we just had surgery. His radial bone on that hand is thinner and shorter.
There's a really great surgeon in Atlanta who did pollicization on Lucas, but he does other limb surgeries/treatments also.

    Hi Lucasmommy,

It's nice to know that there are other parents relatively close by that are going through similar circumstances. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe we can find more out there?

    Hi Tara,

I live in Cary, N.C. and have a daughter with a right arm limb difference. I would love to meet you. My daughter is older but is doing great. I'm not sure what prompted me to even search for Superkids on the web but I did and I saw your post. I received their newsletter many years ago but they no longer publish it. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi - we live in Chapel Hill. My son was born with his left hand affected by symbrachydactyly, and he is now 29 months old. We are going to be meeting with the pediatric plastic surgeon at UNC Hospital tomorrow to see if he would be a candidate for web deepening surgery. Previously we have seen the pediatric orthopedist at UNC, who did not recommend any type of treatment. Have any of you worked with the pediatric plastic surgeons at UNC? I would be very interested to hear about your experiences or any recommendations. Thanks!

    Hi all,

    Here's my email address: tara(dot)parker07@gmail(dot)com

    (Obviously, use "." for (dot))

Beanie, we took our daughter to the Pediatric Orthopedist at UNC two weeks ago and he said there was nothing that could be done surgically, and really he didn't need to see her again for another year. It was disappointing in that we didn't get a lot of details past what we knew from the ultrasounds - even though she was x-rayed. Next time, we'll be going to Duke. :)
